Gukesh Dommaraju is now as short as 2/9 to win the upcoming Chess World Championship

The 2024 Chess World Championship is set to kick off in 10 days time on 25 November and betting sites continue to offer odds on who will win the event this year.

Indian contender Gukesh Dommaraju comes up against Chinese grandmaster Ding Liren with Singapore hosting the event which will take place to a best of 14 games.

Betting odds put Dommaraju as the clear favourite to win the event this year with his odds shortening down to the lowest price he has been yet to be crowned champion at 2/9.

Reigning champion Ding Liren out to 3/1 in the latest betting market

Ding Liren is the reigning World Chess Champion but heads into this event as the big outsider to defend his crown after poor form since his win has continued.

Liren told FIDE that "I know my performances haven't been up to my usual high standards," in an interview earlier this month and he will need a big turnaround for a win against Dommaraju.

"I'm more cautious towards the middle stage of the game because Gukesh is strong in strategy, the middle game, and positional understanding," Ding added.

Magnus Carlsen won the latest big Chess championship in Paris back in September with the Norwegian Chess Grandmaster winning the World Speed Championship.
